For years, Toshiba's Cinema
Series models have been thoroughbreds among
rear-projection TVs. Framed by a high-gloss
black bezel, the 62MX196's screen displays images
with electrifying 3-D realism. You'll want to
sit much closer than you probably ever have
for a screen this big because there's just so
much more to see. The combination of a refined
DLP™ (Digital Light Processing) "light
engine" and a dual-mode lamp ensures a
vivid viewing experience under any lighting
conditions in your room.
On
a 60+" screen, you really appreciate the
added clarity and detail that 1080p resolution
provides. But high resolution is only one requirement
for a great looking picture. Optimizing picture
brightness and contrast is essential, too, especially
for projection TVs. Toshiba employs a circuit
which samples the brightness level of the video
signal and regulates a "dynamic iris,"
opening and closing the aperture to achieve
deeper blacks and higher contrast. It can reduce
light output up to 75% when necessary, fine-tuning
black level scene by scene.
This "Digital Cable Ready"
TV has built-in tuners for over-the-air and
cable digital TV. To make full use of the set's
cable tuner, ask your local service provider
about a CableCARD. This "smart card"
goes in the dedicated slot in the TV's back
panel and replaces your set-top cable box. Using
a CableCARD will simplify your hookup and operation
and usually provides a clearer picture. Navigating
among your broadcast and cable channels is easy
thanks to the included TV Guide On Screen program
guide. The color-coded grid makes it a snap
to sort through programs for viewing or scheduling
recordings to your VCR, DVR, or DVD recorder.
Cinema Series big-screens feature
a flexible and future-ready set of audio/video
connections. In addition to two component video
inputs, you'll find two HDMI digital inputs
(HDMI is quickly becoming the connection of
choice for high-performance audio/video). In
addition to a standard PC input, this set has
an Ethernet jack that lets you access an existing
home network and check out your library of JPEG
and MP3 files using only the TV's remote.
