And a "QAM" tuner lets cable subscribers watch unscrambled cable channels, including HD.

Toshiba employs a "wide color gamut" backlight to provide a 25% wider color range than their previous LCDs. By combining that with advanced video processing, the 52HL167 creates colors that are vibrant yet natural. Also, Toshiba's DynaLight dynamic backlighting system monitors the brightness level of the video signal and fine-tunes backlight intensity. With 256 available brightness levels, every scene has optimum picture contrast and black level.

The generous array of audio/video connections includes two HD-capable component video jacks, plus three HDMI digital inputs for use with the growing number of HDMI-equipped components (like HD satellite receivers and upconverting DVD players). These days there are quite a few LCD models that display 1080p video, but not all of them accept 1080p signals. That's an important distinction, especially if you're considering adding a high-definition disc player. Feed a 1080p signal from Toshiba's HD-XA2 HD DVD player and select the TV's Native Mode to see a pixel-perfect 1080p picture with no unnecessary processing.
