| With
the newly restyled Primus Series, Infinity's
engineers have accomplished the ideal synthesis
of technology, performance, design, and affordability
destined to transport your home entertainment
experience to a higher level. First, listen
to the sound produced by the Primus P252's twin
5.25" woofers and 0.75" tweeter. You'll
encounter a level of realism and subtly beyond
what you've ever known before--even in music
and movie soundtracks you know by heart. Then
look at the Primus P252. You'll be struck by
the modesty of a purely functional design with
refined, contemporary styling that imparts an
elegant, understated appearance. Their rich
black-ash-finish enclosures are accented by
attractive light-silver grilles that have gracefully
curved and tapered top surfaces. With the grilles
off, the speakers present a striking, high-tech
look, with metallic-silver drivers mounted in
matching bezels. The floorstanding P252 also
has contoured metallic-silver feet that complement
the visual appeal. All of this, allied with
Infinity's tradition of excellence in sound
reproduction, makes the cost of this speaker
all the more amazing.
All Primus Series loudspeakers incorporate Infinity's
proven MMD (Metal Matrix Diaphragm) technology
to provide superlative sound quality. MMD driver
cones are manufactured by anodizing both sides
of an aluminum core to a controlled thickness,
producing low-mass, highly rigid driver diaphragms
that operate with greatly reduced distortion,
and deliver extraordinary transient response,
resolution, and smoothness throughout their
entire frequency range. Each tweeter, midrange,
and woofer is optimized for its particular application,
with internal resonances virtually eliminated
within each driver's frequency range to achieve
maximum sonic clarity. The result is richly
detailed, expansive, and dynamic sound, with
articulate bass, musically accurate midrange,
extended high frequencies, and exceptionally
realistic vocal and instrumental reproduction.
Infinity's MMD technology permits you to hear
recordings--perhaps for the first time--exactly
the way the artist or director intended. What
can prevent this from happening are resonances,
unwanted colorations, or distortions, of the
sound reproduced by a speaker; and every transducer
has its own unavoidable set of reasonances based
on its physical characteristics. The trick is
to build a transducer where the natural resonances
are either above or below its audible range.
To get this done, Infinity engineers developed
MMD transducer material, a sandwich made up
of layers of ceramic alumina (5% of the total
thickness top and bottom) anodized to a metallic
aluminum core (the remaining 90% of total thickness).
Among the stiffest materials known, alumina
and aluminum were chosen because sound moves
through them faster than through conventional
transducer materials and the MMD sandwich responds
to electrical signals very rapidly without coloring
the sound at all. MMD technology is derivative
of a similar patented sandwich material used
on Infinity's premium speakers. At Infinity,
elimination of resonances is paramount, whether
at the top of the line or at the entry level.
When other manufacturers claim that their transducers
are ceramically coated, it's merely a cosmetic
surface treatment. The Primus P252 incorporates
MMD transducer material because Infinity knows
you'll be able to hear the difference.
Before ever putting a speaker into production,
Infinity engineers analyze a number of critical
parameters, including frequency response, spatial
averages, phase response, and nonlinear distortion.
Also analyzed are sound quality (timbre and
bandwidth), spatial quality (how well the speakers
spread out the sound), stereo imaging, the multichannel
soundstage (how strong the sound image is in
front, behind, and to the sides), and dynamic
capabilities (sound quality for very loud and
very quiet inputs). The Primus Series speaker
you bring into your home has been subjected
to some of the most rigorous testing and analysis
in the industry, all to assure you superb performance
and superior quality.
In common with all Infinity loudspeakers, Primus
Series models are designed utilizing the company's
room-friendly design principles, which ensure
they will provide sonically accurate performance
in the widest variety of listening environments
and placement positions. All tweeters are mounted
in a specially shaped, recessed waveguide that
provides precise imaging, even frequency response
and controlled directivity over a wide listening
area, creating an immersive multichannel or
stereo listening environment. All models feature
high sensitivity to deliver satisfying volume
levels and wide dynamic range even when using
lower-powered receivers. All are built to Infinity's
high quality standards featuring rigidly braced
enclosures for minimizing unwanted internal
resonances, crossover components selected for
best sound quality; magnetic shielding, and
many additional refinements. Primus Series loudspeakers
are ideal for a wide variety of home entertainment
requirements, from compact home theater and
music systems to larger home entertainment installations
where expansive, authoritative, large scale
playback of movie soundtracks and music is desired.
